Crazy for Corn

Jesse took a bowl of corn onto the front porch to eat it. Apparently that was dull, so he flung it everywhere instead. Gabey to the rescue! Never fear, I'll eat it! This was all well and good- (actually not all that "good") till Jes got a little too excited and threw the bowl. Woops.
And that was the end of that. Does he look sorry to you?

Gabe's got a rash. I was trying to let it air out before rediapering him. His goodies are showing here (woops) so I just shrunk the pic for a little privacy.

"I'll fix it."

Eew. Snot.

Like father, like son.

Happy Memorial Day!

As the holiday has approached I've found myself particularly emotional (even more than normal) about everything patriotic. Then last night I was reading in Gordon B. Hinckley's Standing for Something and I read this quote by Henry Van Dyke.

"Tis fine to see the Old World, and travel up and down
Among the famous places and cities of renown,
To admire the crumbly castles and statues of the kings,--
But now I think I've had enough of antiquated things.
So it's home again, and home again, America for me!
My heart is turning home again, and there I long to be,
In the land of youth and freedom beyond the ocean bars,
Where the air is full of sunlight and the flag is full of stars."

I love America. I believe our founding fathers, though flawed and human, were inspired of God. We live in the greatest nation on the planet and while I'm concerned for her future, I marvel at her history. I'm so blessed to be here.
My most sincere gratitude goes to those in uniform who give me my freedom and liberty, and those now gone who did the same. And especially to the Soldiers and Marines in my life, I love you!!!

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease..
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.
I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

Of all the gifts we can give our troops, a prayer is the most powerful. Please pray for them.

Found a Long Lost Memory Card!

What a cool surprise! I was digging around and found a memory card from a while back, and it had these on it. Better than finding five buckets in some old pants.

Our Garden!Dirt Face Gabey

Tire Thumb.

Like some nostril-flaring monster- Run!

Dad SWEARS Gabey can do this.
And he's got the all important toy car, so why not?

Mother's Day tornado, just a couple miles from our house. We were in the car when Matt's fire radio sounded, so we went with him. We waited in the car while he treated the injured.

Driving to the other side of the destruction
to help search houses for more people

This was a huge grain silo from a farm a couple blocks away. Before the storm it had been full. It was lying next to the spot where we waited in the car while Matt worked. We were there till dark, so we weren't able to get pics of the overturned houses and rubble everywhere. We'd seen all that when we first arrived, before we realized we had the camera with us.

That night at our house (which was completely intact, thank Heaven!)

He tried to move in the heavy gear and fell backward.
